Hi - I have moved some of the poetry to the archives, so if you don't find a poem here that you are looking for please see the archive links on the side menu.

Poem for January 2009

The Passing

Some believe that when a soul passes

   it's leaving arouses the air

dragging the clouds to new places

and the snow to unknown meadows and forests.

We can't catch the wind

nor can we  follow it closely

   or even discern it's path.

But we can feel it's movement on our cheeks

   and in our hair

as it glides around us and rouses our skin.

We can't see the breeze that shakes the house

   or rattles the chimes

But I like to think it is the movement of Spirit

   dancing in the world.

And we can know that it is this windy frolic of Spirit

that brings Life to the Earth

   and Breath to our days.

Poem for August 2008

Prayer Takes Flight

This morning poems and prayers appeared in the paint

as I smudged colors on an unfolding canvas.

Verses of joy, gratitude and aspirations for truth and life

   jumped from the luminous hues

and when I chased after them

I saw yearnings, previously snared in drying pigments,

rushing freely upward on beams of rainbow suns

   shimmering in the snow.

All today I searched to see where my fleeing hopes had gone

and now, in the evening sky

I see where they have landed.

There are the poems of my heart bouncing in the star lights

and my desires are taking voice

in the cries of the night hawk.

And my paintings have not ended with the departure of those prayers

for, no longer trapped on a canvas

the visions sparkle with renewed awareness

   of their Heavenly Source

and return to rain stains and pictures of love and holy light

upon the flat cloth surfaces of artists

and the rolling skin of earth.

Well I am finally back after a long absence. This poem for the week of June 4, 2008 was written last summer.

Mid Summer at 5 Rivers

The trees are doing their mid summer leaf shed -

water droplets shimmer on this fallen leaf

and a crow calls across the blue, blue emptiness,

There is a half moon sitting in the morning sky.

Give me this shaded trail in the hotness of summer.

The moon, a crow, a deer, butterflies and mosquitoes

cross my path as if by accident.

A Blue Jay feather falls on my foot as if by chance - so casual

but I suspect they are all looking at me,

   weighing my presence

   sizing me up

   talking to me

   inviting me

   loving me.

This awareness leaves me no choice but to bow

   in blissful gratitude

bitten by the love of this small mosquito

buzzing in my heart.

Poem for the week of March 11,2008. This poem was written last summer while walking at Five Rivers.

Continuation

The heart of a dandelion lies safely snuggled

in the feathery softness of its core

   where it rests and sleeps

and rises with the aged flower petals

to be floated on the wind

out of its self by the mind of God.

May my heart be as free as dandelion fuzz

soft, white and drifting on a whisper,

and as unfettered as milkweed down

   set free from its pod,

and as purpose full as a maple seed wing

   daintily dancing in the air,

so expectant and patient as the adventure unfolds

   and whispering to itself

"I wonder where will be my patch of fertile ground?"
